Hamilton clinches second in nervy qualifying
27 September 2008 / Results / PhotosLewis Hamilton may have qualified his McLaren on the front row of the grid in second place for tomorrow's Singapore Grand Prix, but the championship leader was under pressure to progress from Q2, and managed to do so only on his final lap and by 0.1s.
"It was a bit nerve wracking for sure, but fortunately we got through and managed to get a spot on the front row," Hamilton said. "Obviously not as smooth sailing as other people but we're in a good position for the race tomorrow."
"I remember that the first lap I did wasn't fantastic and the last sector was good, but the first two were a bit cautious, but on my final lap I lost a bit in the middle of the lap," he added. "I improved slightly but it wasn't enough. Q2 was quite a tricky decision to make on the tyres. Normally there's a relatively big difference between the two and today they are similar, but the option is not lasting the whole lap. I think everyone went for the harder tyre and it did the job."
