'Perfect lap' nets Massa key pole
27 September 2008 / Results / PhotosFelipe Massa secured a key pole position in his championship fight with Lewis Hamilton and will start tomorrow's Singapore Grand Prix from P1, ahead of his title rival.
Massa, however, did it in some style and with Hamilton fighting to go faster on his final flying lap in Q3, Massa had it all to do again. And he did it, with a lap 0.6s quicker than the McLaren.
"First of all the car was just perfect, so nice to drive and then I managed to do a perfect lap which always helps when you have a good car and don't make any mistakes," said Massa. "It's just a great feeling when you come to the last corner you know you can't make any mistake and trying not to go over the limit there because you can make it worse there so easily. I was taking it corner by corner not making a mistake and careful not to make a mistake in the final one and the feeling is just fantastic when you get the best out of the car. It's the most incredible feeling as a racing driver."
"It's pretty tough here, it's a difficult track and to get every corner right is very difficult," he added. "The light and visibility isn't a big problem and you don't really think about it once you're in the car trying to get the most out of it. It will be a very difficult race, for sure, concentration will be ten times more than any other usual circuit, maybe even more than Monaco because there are so many corners."
